The most comprehensive alcohol use test is now available as a urine test called an Alcohol EtG / EtS test. This tests for alcohol consumption within an 80-hour window depending on the last use and how much was used.
The traditional lab methods detect the actual ethanol in the body which only reflects the current usage within the past few hours (depending on how much is ingested). The Alcohol EtG/EtS test tests for the presence of EtG/EtS and indicates whether ethanol was ingested within the previous 3 to 4 days (or approximately 80 hours after ingestion). Therefore this test is a more accurate indicator of the recent ingestion.
